Migrations

Return to Special Events page

The Equinox Chamber Players (ECP) are privileged to perform the WORLD PREMIERE of Migrations by John Lampkin. Commissioned by the ECP, (thanks to an anonymous donor!), the work is inspired by the migratory patterns of five different animal species of land, sea and air. Steelhead Salmon leap the rapids, Broadwing Hawks spiral ever higher, and a pair of crustaceans and a sloth add wit and humor to the dramatic mix. Although this is "serious" chamber fare, the programmatic and imaginative nature of the work will appeal to younger concert-goers as well as adults. Please check out our calendar for information about the premiere and surrounding events with composer-in residence, John Lampkin.

Lampkin won the Grand Prize in the 2001 Composers Guild competition for another work inspired by the marvels of nature, Insects: a Musical Entomology in Six Legs. This woodwind quintet was performed extensively by the ECP during the 2001 seasons, and its success led directly to the commissioning of Migrations. "I am grateful to Equinox for providing the both the financial and high level of artistic support to bring these new species to life," says Lampkin.

The Equinox Chamber Players thank our Anonymous Donor for the commissioned work, the St. Louis Symphony Community Partnership Program and our private donors who helped make this project possible.
