April 8, 2018 – “Wild Kingdom” music concert fit for the whole family at DaySpring Black Box Theatre. A Concert of Musical Tails features Equinox Chamber Players, performing Berio (“Opus Number Zoo”), Gershwin (“Walking the Dog”), and Prokofiev’s beloved work, “Peter and the Wolf”. DaySpring students, faculty, and friends join along for delightful, entertaining musical sounds honoring our furriest, feathered, and slimiest friends.
April 18, 2018 – “Of Dark Winds and Rosewood” at Lee Theatre, Touhill Performing Arts Center, UMSL Campus. Of all standard chamber music ensembles, the woodwind quintet gives composers the richest variety of tonal color with which to experiment. The Equinox Chamber Players will showcase this palette in works by Mary Jane Leach, Phillip Bimstein, Justinian Tamasuza, Frank Bridge and Zac Cairns that explore the sonic and rhythmic worlds of the Kaibab Plateau, Uganda, St Louis and the physicality of sound itself. The finale of the program will add the rich woodiness of the marimba to the ensemble in an exciting work by Zachary Cairns featuring Equinox friend Jeffrey Barudin.

March 30th, 2014 S.M.I.L.E.S public showcase concert at the Ethical Society. S.M.I.L.E.S. is a series of small ensemble coachings and leadership training sessions designed to develop musicianship, leadership and teamwork skills through the medium of chamber music. In partnership with Metro High School, Francis Howell High School, Orchestrating Diversity, University City High School and McCluer South-Berkeley High School, the Equinox Chamber Players will closely mentor newly created student chamber groups on a weekly basis beginning January 2014 through March 2014, preparing them for Missouri’s State Solo and Ensemble Festival slated for March, 2014. Participants will improve their skills in musical communication and the shared responsibility required to prepare and perform together at a high level. Individual members of Equinox will coach ensembles and work in depth with the students in developing and enhancing their leadership skills. The program culminates in this public showcase concert.

The Equinox Chamber Players performed at a lovely evening of hearty fare, passionate music-making, candlelight and fire-side warmth on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, the 14th at Eden Seminary’s Schroer Commons. Listeners sat by the fireside with a special someone, or simply enjoyed the company of like-minded music-lovers, had a glass of wine, buffet dinner, bid on sweet nothings during the silent auction, and heard a special performance by the Players in support of our educational outreach programs and the creation of a new chamber work for winds.

Proceeds to benefit our educational collaboration with Orchestrating Diversity and our Music for the Soul programs in various treatment centers.
Women in the Arts presents the Equinox Chamber Players & Composer-in-Residence Beth Denisch
Women in the Arts seeks to heighten the awareness and understanding of the achievements of women creators and provide audiences with new and historical examples of the work of women writers, composers and artists. The conference is a multi-venue celebration of women creators present and past, a partnership of institutions and arts organizations from the St. Louis metropolitan area.
St. Louis Music Intensive Leadership Enrichment Series (SMILES)
SMILES is a series of small ensemble coachings and leadership training sessions designed to develop musicianship, leadership and teamwork skills through the medium of chamber music. In partnership with Metro High School, the Ethical Society and David Hotle, a nationally recognized leadership training consultant, the Equinox Chamber Players will closely mentor newly created student chamber groups on a weekly basis beginning December 2010 through March 2011, preparing them for Missouri’s State Solo and Ensemble Festival slated for March 4, 2011. Participants will improve their skills in musical communication and the shared responsibility required to prepare and perform together at a high level. Mr. Hotle will work in depth with the students in developing and enhancing their leadership skills. The program will culminate in a public showcase concert at the Ethical Society, giving the students the opportunity to share their achievements with a supportive audience. Participation in this program will require serious student commitment to individual and ensemble preparation and should be deeply rewarding as they strive for high rankings at the State Festival and experience their first formal chamber music recital. All participants will receive certificates recognizing their work.
Immigrations: New Place Like Home 2009-2010
Recognizing that St. Louis is host and home to people of many nations, Equinox has created a dynamic musical and educational program that celebrates the changing “faces of St. Louis”.

Olympic Harmony – 2008
Inspired by the 2008-2009 Olympic Season, the Equinox Chamber Players kick off their new season with Olympic Harmony!, designed to celebrate the coming together of the five continents and featuring a sneak preview of a newly commissioned work by Beth Denisch, The Suite of Five Seasons. Faces of St. Louis – 2008
The St. Louis Women’s Chorale, directed by Scott Schoonover, and the Equinox Chamber Players have collaborated to create an evening performance surrounded by five educational events. Faces of St. Louis includes commissioned works by St. Louis composers inspired by St. Louis-themed poetry and literature. Featured works include commissioned premieres of Gay Spears’ The Season of Singing and Barbara Harbach’s A Love Supreme, inspired by poetry of St. Louis poet Cheryl Walker.

Freeing the Caged Bird – 2007
The Equinox Chamber Players, composer Dr. Barbara Harbach, and scholar Dr. Kathleen Nigro collaborate in a program titled Freeing the Caged Bird, celebrating the extraordinary lives and literary contributions of Maya Angelou, Kate Chopin, Sara Teasdale and Emily Hahn, four of St. Louis’ most accomplished writers. At the heart of the event will be a performance of Dr. Harbach’s Freeing the Caged Bird, a woodwind quintet commissioned by the Equinox Chamber Players. Dr. Harbach will discuss intricacies of her music inspired by these writers and as the music unfolds, Dr. Nigro will discuss and deliver a power point presentation highlighting the historical influences of these outstanding literary artists. Freeing the Caged Bird is to be presented by the Equinox Chamber Players, Dr. Harbach and Dr. Nigro in the spring of 2007.The premiere is set for March 4th, 2007 at the Ethical Society of St. Louis, with eleven educational outreach events surrounding the premiere.
Equinox in the City! – 2006
Equinox Chamber Players collaborate with the City Museum and features guest artists Windfire, Flute & Percussion Spectacular! in a spirited performance of works inspired by the treasures, sights and heroes of St. Louis. From Classical to Blues, Haitian rhythms to “techno-rag,” Equinox celebrates the rich cultural background of St. Louis and the amazing contributions of the people, including the Cardinals and fans, St. Louis writers, dancers and composers, and cherished sights such as the City Museum, Botanical Garden and historical Busch Stadium.
Equinox in the City! showcases the Bushy Wushy Rag which includes the taped voices of Jack Buck, Robert Logan, A.K.A. the Bushy Wushy Beer Man, along with the cheers of the St. Louis Cardinal Fans out at old Busch Stadium. Another featured work, for quintet and African percussion, pays tribute to Katherine Dunham and her contributions to Haitian dance in North America.
A highlight of the evening will be the sneak-preview of the newly commissioned work Freeing the Caged Bird, by St. Louis composer Barbara Harbach. The music celebrates the extraordinary lives and literary contributions of Maya Angelou, Kate Chopin, Sara Teasdale, and Emily Hahn, four of St. Louis’ most accomplished writers. The premiere is March 4th, 2007 at the Ethical Society.
Earth Day — 2006
The Equinox Chamber Players celebrate Earth Day 2006 with a concert series featuring A Walk Through Shaw’s Garden by composer John Lampkin. The commissioned work is a tribute to the Missouri Botanical Garden and to Henry Shaw, the man who created it. The world premiere concert will be performed at the Garden, and will air on the radio show From the Garden – Live!® FM 99.1 Noon, April 23rd, 2005. The concert program, which includes other music celebrating animals, plants, people and the earth, will also be performed in a series of outreach presentations in eight area schools and centers.
Sounds of Autumn Celebration
On October 27th, 2005, Equinox Chamber Players kicked off Their a Sounds of Autumn celebration. The Equinox Chamber Players will collaborate with two of St. Louis’ esteemed blues and jazz musicians, Carolbeth True and Gene Dobbs Bradford in a colorful evening of Latin, jazz and classical music. The Equinox Chamber Players are grateful to our sponsors who generously offered to support us in our first annual fundraiser Sounds of Autumn.
Music in our Schools Month — 2005
The Equinox Chamber Players join the National Association of Music Educators in recognition of Music In Our Schools Month® , officially designated for the month of March, the time of year when music education becomes the focus of schools across the nation. The Equinox Chamber Players have commissioned Vermont composer Gwyneth Walker to create a special work for our school and community concerts. Fun-damentals of Music, for woodwind quintet with audience participation, has been described by the composer as an “interactive quintet.” Various musical elements (melody, harmony, rhythm and form) will be explored in an entertaining dialogue between the quintet and the audience.

Migrations
The Equinox Chamber Players (ECP) are privileged to present the WORLD PREMIERE of John Lampkin’s Migrations. Commissioned by the ECP, the work is inspired by the migratory patterns of five different animal species of land, sea and air.

Continental Harmony: New Music for the Millennium 2000
The EQUINOX CHAMBER PLAYERS, officially designated White House Millennium Council Partners, were endorsed by the National Endowment for the Arts and the American Composers Forum as the selected performing ensemble to represent St. Louis and participate in the national initiative, Continental Harmony: New Music for the Millennium. Throughout the millennium year, the Equinox Chamber Players performed 15 concerts and workshops to schools, adult centers and concert halls in the St. Louis City and County regions, along with internationally recognized composer, Phillip Kent Bimstein, who wrote a spirited work, The Bushy Wushy Rag, for and about St. Louis. Generous financial assistance has been provided by the The Regional Arts Commission – St. Louis, Missouri Arts Council, a state agency, Mid-America Arts Alliance, Arts and Education Council, the Bohle Foundation, the Target Corporation, the Saint Louis Symphony Community Partnership Program and private donors.
